i also think this makes a lot of the ominous prophecies about chief bringing the end of the world more pleasant, bc if you assume that its the end of the world according to the source as we observe it dominantly, then yeah, its bad. you end up with chief fighting endlessly for the betterment of everyone only to bring about their demise in the process. but i think the result of chief’s actions are going to be in line with her character. not annihilation but the restoration she’s been seeking the whole time
my favorite part of the bible was when jsrsus screamed “ill take your head off” at a guy that was being kind of annoying and then 5 minutes later they were drinking coffee with 10 sugar cubes together
(we have obv left paralleles to christianity long behind here) i think the divinity isnt really sure of what it wants if anything though. the dreamflower only wants to destroy humanity after seeing through anarkia’s eyes that humanity wishes for destruction. that it hates itself for its sins. the perishing star seems much more malevolent on the surface. DisSea (connected to the perishing star) wants chief and on some level, chief wants it too, but that same divinity also wanted chief to go astray in a sense and live as a human. likewise, the man at the piano seems rather kind and encouraging. he doesn’t want chief to end everything, he just wants her to figure things out for herself.
ig ptn’s three eyed god is stuck in tension between the shortcut (annihilation), and completion, but while it visibly shows some gravitation towards annihilation, it is ultimately oriented towards completion through chief, and that tension is metabolized through her suffering into greater orientation towards completion. ig this means chief probably cannot fail as long as she just keeps throwing herself in the meat grinder. the Source is itself incomplete as is.
perhaps raging sands was the whole story of the game on a micro scale
i suppose in this sense, stargazer’s attempts at apotheosis are against the will of the divinity and chief is in line with it. it wants to take on humanity. stargazer is the one who wants to destroy humanity.
the average path to nowhere writer has a better understanding of christianity than the average american evangelical and i dont think any of them are christian /srs
like, the goal of ptn’s divinity is not to siphon off a few self-proclaimed allies to a better place like i was taught in church as a kid, it is a new creation where humanity is completed, apart from sin, and united with divinity.
also it has a high eucharistology?? where entities that are physical instances on earth are instances of the divinity (though physically distinct from one another) and exist to be eaten to get closer to God and they create union of heaven and earth.
dont get me wrong. this is not a place for good theology. this is a mobile gacha game featuring such incredible characters as “swimsuit bombshell #2”. its cosmology would rightfully be recognized as deeply heretical bc it is a video game designed to make an interesting story with a dystopian setting and engaging gameplay.
fun fact: if shin died and was the kind woman she seemed, it would be the second time that chief killed a friend thinking they were somebody else, and the second time she killed anyone in general
context, long, blood, had fun editing itWhy didn't you see it sooner...? Humans are fragile. A little fear, a little pressure... that's all it takes to crush them, turning them into puppets of the Abyss. But that same fragility became the disguise that fooled everyone, making you overlook the one threat you should never have ignored.
Ragnar: Hehe... Hehehe...
Ragnar notices you and slowly turns around. His eyes are two pitch-black voids. His mouth is split into an uncanny grin as a dry, raspy laugh escapes from his throat.
It's laughing at you. Mocking you from the husk of your former teammate. Mocking the blind, weak fool you are...
You remember the tragedies you’ve witnessed. These memories fill you with overwhelming regret and anger. And that anger catches flame, turning into an unquenchable thirst to kill.
choice: Pick up the chisel
You grab the emergency chisel propped against the door. Your body, overtaken by fury, takes one step forward, then another. And still, he holds that eerie posture, his hollow, lightless eyes boring into yours, his mouth agape in silent derision. You can almost hear him saying...
Ragnar: You can't do it, can you?
No. You'll show him. You'll prove him wrong. You raise the chisel high over your head. Soon, you'll sever the root of this tragedy...
??: Stop!
just as you are about to strike, you hear an urgent shout trom behind. Soft arms wrap around you, holding you fast and stopping you from landing the final blow. In an instant, your body freezes, as if plunged into an icy ocean.
???: But how could you let something so weak stop you?
you(chief/little guide) He's the source of contamination on the ship! He's the one who killed Vikmar and Sigmund!!
???: You're the only one who saw through his disguise. You're righteous. You're good. You must save everyone..
you: He brought the monsters from the Abyss onto the ship! He led the thing from the water back here!!
???: Think of those who died. They died because you're foolish ???: Do you still remember their eyes? Do you remember how they looked at you before they died? You must not forget... ???: I BELIEVE IN YOU...
you: I believe... I will not forget... I believe in myself... I will... TEAR HIM APART TEAR HIM APART TEAR HIM APART TEAR HIM APART TEAR HIM APART TEAR HIM APART...
Once, twice, three times... The thick, sweet tang of blood fills your nostrils. Blood sprays into the air. The droplets hang there, morphing into countless faces, crying, screaming, sprouting infinite hands that pull you into their embrace.
You're face-to-face with them. They open wide their pitch-black eyes, open their crimson mouths... ???: For us. For us. Save me. Save me. SAVE ME SAVE ME SAVE ME...
You are doing the right thing... YOU are all doing the right thing.
???: KILL HIM. KILL HIM. KILL HIM.
You strike again. This time, something splashes onto your lips. A soft, sweet, juicy morsel. It tastes divine.
Your desire is finally sated.
You collapse to the ground, completely drained. You're caught by the person who first tried to stop you. She holds you in her arms, human warmth seeping through the damp tabric into your body once more. You teel at peace. ..No, it's the warmth of blood.
you: Shin?
You jolt upright, only to find her a mangled mess of flesh and blood. You want to grasp the hand that's holding you, but you don't dare, for you can see white bone showing through the gashes on her arm.
They're all stab wounds, your marks left on her with your chisel.
The metallic smell of blood, so comforting moments ago, now makes you want to throw up.
